PHS Activities
Pratt High boasts a wide range of activities offering both academic enhancements and self-enrichment disciplines.
Academic Olympics: A yearly event sponsored by Pratt Community College, students enter events based on their particular academic strengths ranging from math and science to art and languages.
Foreign Frogs: Club organization focusing on the finer points of foreign language skills.
Forensics: Pratt High School offers a strongly competitive activity in speech and drama. One of the top 10% of teams in the country for several years, and runner-up at State 4A Championships against 48 teams, the team has a history of success. PHS forensics practices in the spring to attend tournaments. While students must take the Forensics class to participate, they choose which tournaments to attend based on their schedules. An offering that helps students build skills in competitive Forensics is the course Speech and Drama, which is offered in the fall.
Future Business Leaders of America - Our mission is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs. Students attend leadership conferences, compete in competitive events to build personal and professional skills, and are involved in unique career-development programs and a variety of conferences and workshops.
Jobs for America's Graduates - JAG - State-based, National non-profit organization dedicated to preventing dropouts among young people who are most at risk. In more than 3 decades of operation, JAG has delivered consistent, compelling results helping nearly 3/4 of a million young people staying in school through graduation pursuing post-secondary education and secure quality entry-level jobs leading to career advancement opportunities. This is the fourth year of the JAG program at PHS.
Kay Club: This student leadership organization’s main focus is service projects and developing leadership qualities they can take with them into life after high school.
Marching Band: Year after year, The Pride of South-Central Kansas Pratt High Marching Band excels both in competition against much larger schools, and in competition with itself as it strives to improve each and every year. With exciting halftime shows and a spirit-filled stand presence, this is a band you must see.
National Honor Society: NHS meets the first Thursday of the month during lunch. Some activities that NHS participates in during the school year are: Grim Reaper, Trick or Treat for the food bank, SW Carnival, Lemon Park Lights, Kindergarten Roundup, Valentines to Parkwood Village, Fund Raisers, Coat Drive, Community Thanksgiving Dinner, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and Fire Prevention Week.
Pep Club: Responsible for school spirit and the unique Homecoming assemblies held twice annually, this club is both creative and involved.
Pratt High Singers: This is the premier vocal ensemble at Pratt High School. Rehearsals are at 7:15 on Thursday mornings and Thursday during Seminar. Auditions are held at the end of the school year and consist of an 8-measure excerpt, a sight-reading excerpt, a solfège scale, and a short call-and-response excerpt.
The Pratt High Singers are proud to perform at the Fall & Winter Homecoming Assemblies, PHS Music Department Christmas Concert, Singing Valentines, performances at Senior Living Centers in Pratt, performances for civic & community dinners/events as requested, KSHSAA Solo & Ensemble Festival, and Spring Choral Concert, and other regional venues
Scholars Bowl: Like Jeopardy on steroids, this team competes statewide being quizzed on a myriad of academic topics
Science Club: The purpose of this club is to coordinate and help students develop a better understanding of scientific concepts through scientific activities and competitions such as Science Olympiads, BEST Robotics, and ECO Meet.
SIGMA (Math Club): This group competes in math competitions each year.
STUCO (Student Government): Service projects and student representation are the main thrust of our student-selected governing body.
Theatre: The school performs a musical each fall in early-to-mid September. Auditions are typically in late May, with the first read-through and initial vocal rehearsals for a few days in late May and in June. Taking a break, practice resumes in late July with intensive rehearsals. Once school begins in August, students go to one rehearsal nightly if they have large roles, and then the performance takes place in September. In the last six years, Pratt High School has been nominated for Music Theatre Wichita's prestigious Jester Awards, and has won multiple awards there.
Yearbook: Charged with compiling each school year’s memorable moments and printing them in a concise, entertaining way, Pratt High’s yearbook staff must stay focused and sharp.
