Welcome to Southwest Elementary, home of the Superfrogs, located in Pratt, Kansas!
Southwest is a progressive, schoolwide Title One elementary school, focused on a culture that
promotes a rigorous and relevant curriculum in every classroom, that is supported through
positive relationships between our staff, students, families, and community. Positive classroom
relationships are facilitated through daily classroom morning meetings and the Zones of
Regulation social emotional curriculum, that is a focus in all K-4 classrooms.
Along with an engaging academic experience in the general education classroom, students
receive daily music and physical education instruction from our specialists. Additionally, the
MTSS Program (Multi-tiered System of Support) provides additional instructional services in
both reading and math, for all students based on their individual learning needs. In science,
students have many hands-on opportunities in both the classroom, as well as in the science lab,
located in the district’s ACE building (Academic Center of Excellence).
Technology is woven throughout the academic day of our students. Each classroom has a
Smartboard or a Newline board, as well as a document camera to support instruction. Students
are 1:1 with an individual classroom device, either an iPad or a Google Chromebook, depending
on the grade level. Google Classroom is introduced and utilized throughout classrooms to
promote digital literacy with our students.
K-2 classrooms emphasize the character education traits of trustworthiness, respect,
responsibility, fairness, citizenship, and caring. Our 3 rd and 4 th grade students focus on additional
character traits that emphasize humility, self-control, perseverance, initiative, truthfulness,
work ethic, obedience, and gratefulness.
We love the support of our families and the community! For parents who would like to be
involved with the school, we have a Southwest PTO that does an outstanding job of supporting
our Southwest School community. We also have a Site Council that works with our
administration and teachers to support and provide direction for our school.
Visitors are always welcome to see our school. You will find that we are proud Greenbacks and
love our Southwest School and community.
